To be very candid here each of the two has its own advantages when it comes to running an online business.
I wouldn’t want to sound biased here like most people do when it comes to comparing two things together.
Website and funnel have their own usage and purpose. As you may already know, ClickFunnels is for funnel creation while WordPress is for building websites.
But nowadays both tools have been built in such a way that they can complement each other.
For example, a WordPress website optimized with a good conversion will outperform a funnel built on ClickFunnels with bad sales copies and a cool design.
Let me explain better, there’s no need for abandoning the WordPress website for any other tool if you can have all your sales processes arranged in order.
During this write-up on ClickFunnels vs WordPress review, I might sound a little diverge. But I have my reason, my main goal is for you to see what both platforms have to offer.
Although this comparison isn’t a head-to-head kind, I can assure you that after completing this post you will finally make the best decision to choose which of the platform is most beneficial to your business.
ClickFunnels vs WordPress: My Personal Experience
As a web developer, I have worked with many clients to develop landing pages and sales pages using WordPress.
During this time I have been so happy using the tool until I discovered ClickFunnels by chance in early 2018.
What is ClickFunnels?
I came across ClickFunnels for the first time in 2018 with the privilege of an internet marketer, then I was still using WordPress to build all my sites for my own use and for my clients at that time.
I launched my very first funnel with an affiliate funnel which allows me to capture an email address of my prospect that landed on my page so I could lead them to the actual product I want them to see.
If you considered using WordPress for this task, you can’t imagine the kind of stress you’ll go through, if you’ve used WordPress before you’ll understand better.
Firstly, you would have to install WordPress on its own then with some additional plugins before you can even have a single page to be live.
But, using ClickFunnels reverse is the case because you don’t need to go through all those stress to launch your very first funnel on the platform.
Using this tool will help you to build a great relationship with anyone that landed on your sales funnel or pages.
There are amazing things you can perform using this particular tool in your business with some of these amazing features as stated below.
- Follow-up funnels
- Membership sites
- Affiliate management
- Order bumps, upsells and downsells
- Funnel Flix
So, you get to build a full sales funnel or landing page in a matter of minutes without having any coding experience or copywriting skills.
What is WordPress?
Like I said above, WordPress is the first and main tool I used to design landing pages and sales pages created for personal use or client purpose during my early days of freelancing.
WordPress has a 60.8% market share in the CMS market. This is to tell you how popular WordPress is. Most of the popular websites that get the most traffic use WordPress.
When we talk of sites like an Entrepreneur, Crunchbase, BBC America, Times magazine, and lots of others.
Like I have said above WordPress is my main tool for building websites or blogging most especially this site you are on right now is built on the WordPress platform.
The main advantage of WordPress is that you have full control over your website which allows you to do anything you want with it like posting content, installing plugins, and so on.
With WordPress, you can easily put up a page right now and it will appear in Google with your choosing desired keywords – When optimized perfectly.
To round it up WordPress has all the necessary tools and functionalities your page needs to rank in the search engine while this is not available in ClickFunnels.
Do you understand?
So you can simply build your sales funnel, landing pages, manager affiliates, and a few other stuff on WordPress with some additional plugins. We would get to that later.
But for now, let’s dive into the differences between both tools below.
Differences Between ClickFunnels vs WordPress
For a reminder that ClickFunnels vs WordPress isn’t an article that shows the similarities between the two rather we go deeper and show you how each of them differs. but before that let’s discuss if migrating will be an option
#1: Sales Funnel Builder vs Website Builder
ClickFunnels is well known as a sales funnel builder software while WordPress is great for building a content-riched website. WordPress is known for its ability to create a hype-ranked SEO friendly website.
This is one of the advantages of WordPress over ClickFunnels because it gives you access to everything you need to rank a website from day one it was published online.
Since you already know that ClickFunnels is used to build sales funnel while on the other hand WordPress can also be used to build a sales funnel but it takes some extra work.
To build a sales funnel using WordPress aside from the time it will take, you will need some prerequisites for the funnel to be live such as installing additional plugins.
Some of these plugins are free and some are also paid.
The next thing to consider here is the cost of setting up a live funnel on both ClickFunnels and WordPress.
ClickFunnels is a SaaS (software-as-a-service) based tool usually charged on a monthly or yearly based interval priced at $97 and $297 respectively.
The two plans differ in some tasks you can perform on the platform, like the $97 plan you would get access to 20 funnels, 3 domains, 100 pages, and 20,000 visitors with some amazing features.
The $297 plan gives you unlimited access to all features on the platform plus some additional tools like follow-up funnels, and affiliate management tools which are not available in the startup plan ($97).
WordPress Setup Cost
WordPress on the other hand is not the same as ClickFunnels, you will still need some extra dependencies to be up and running to have the funnel live. You’ll need a domain name and hosting platform.
A domain name usually costs $10 and above and a good hosting platform starts at $2.50/mo.
You might spend more on the dependencies and plugins needed to have all your pages start functioning.
An estimated amount to have a fully WordPress pages setup can cost around $150 – $1200, which might cost more if you considered hiring a funnel designer.
As you can see it costs less when you consider leveraging WordPress to build your landing page compared to ClickFunnels.
The best part of following this route is that you’ll have full access to the pages you created.
#3: Time Efficiency
The time required to get a funnel up and running in no time using ClickFunnels is different from WordPress.
Using ClickFunnels you can set up a page in a matter of minutes with a few clicks of a button but it’s not the same in WordPress, you would still need some integrations, web development skills, lots of trials, and error.
It even gets worst if you plan to outsource the work to a freelancer online.
You will only enjoy using WordPress if you’re versatile with building a basic HTML website or have prior coding experience.
When comes to using ClickFunnels and understanding some basic things about funnels, in general, can be very daunting at times – But you don’t have to be bothered about this because there is a basic training to get you started inside the ClickFunnels FunnelFlix platform.
In addition, if you want to understand the basic concepts involved in funnels, then you can find all that is explained in the Dotcom Secrets book.
For using WordPress
There’s nothing complicated here and it’s easy to understand depending on what you want to achieve.
With the help of the plugins available, you can do almost build anything raging from blogs, marketing funnels, basic sites, etc.
But it got complicated when you considered going advanced by building anything compared to what I shared above, in this situation, you would need the help of a web developer.
As a ClickFunnels user, you get access to interactive guidelines from the community members in the Avengers group on Facebook which is free to join whether you’re a subscriber or not.
As you may know, getting along in business as a matter of fact entrepreneurship to be precise is not easy at all.
But, if you can find a group of people with the same goal as you, it will make the journey an easy one.
That’s why the community is created in the first place to get people to share ideas.
If you get an issue with your funnel set up and you find out your questions are not well attended to on time, this community on Facebook is your alternative.
In most cases, the affiliate manager attends to some technical issues as well.
Do you know any specific WordPress community? I bet if you can find anyone. Even if you do…It’s some groups or forums that created a plugin, themes, or templates based on WordPress dependencies.
Don’t quote me wrong here…
There are places to get support for any WordPress issues but might not be direct response.
But ClickFunnels is built to give you access to training and provide you lots of value when it comes to sales, marketing, business, and building a tribe. WordPress doesn’t provide any of such.
Should You Migrate or Not?
Currently, I know you have either ClickFunnels or WordPress serving as your sales pages, and thinking maybe to migrate from ClickFunnels to WordPress or vice versa.
But, let me tell you something.
Don’t proceed yet…
Both of the tools also have their own downside and that leads us to the purpose or what you’re planning to achieve…Some of the downsides are started below.
- For SEO, WordPress crushes ClickFunnels.
- In addition, ClickFunnels outperforms WordPress when it comes to funnel creation.
Also, remember that WordPress powers almost 30% of the websites online and for such reason, it’s a huge benefit for the open-source software.
As a reminder, you don’t fully own funnels you build on ClickFunnels, you rent them.
What this simply means is that you don’t fully have access to all of the funnels you have built-in ClickFunnels
You are limited to the tools and integrations they allow.
While on the other hand with WordPress, you are limited with the skills and imagination of what you can build as a website.
And that leads us to the big question
Do you really need a website with a ClickFunnels
No! With ClickFunnels, you don’t require a website built on WordPress or any other Content Management System platform.
This is due to the fact that you can create your website entirely within ClickFunnels, which includes everything from hosting to domains to designs and much more.
The only time I’d recommend using ClickFunnels with WordPress is if you want to rank your pages or employ content marketing tactics.
And, as you may be aware, ClickFunnels isn’t exactly SEO-friendly. WordPress is a blogging platform.
What’s the Next Step to Take?
It’s better you go through the route of using ClickFunnels for your funnel building and sales pages creation rather than WordPress which also requires some additional plugins.
Also, there is a ClickFunnels WordPress plugin to integrate with your funnels that still functions very well.
Well, you might be thinking you can also build amazing things with WordPress when you integrate some themes and plugins like Elegant themes, Thrive Artichect, or LeadPages. But those still require some additional efforts and workaround.
One of the downsides of WordPress is that it’s not built in a way that allows you to build upsell, downsell, cross-sell, order bump, or a one-click purchase, which are mostly on the paid WordPress plugins.
Another issue is that you can’t track your abandoned purchases and the same with follow-up funnels to engage your prospects after purchasing or leaving your funnel.
WordPress is the most widely used Best Blogging Platform no doubt about that, but it also has its own limitation. As the name and functionality imply, it’s created for blogging and not for building funnels.
Here’s What You Can Do Instead
You should consider using WordPress for content creation and organic marketing while using ClickFunnels for funnel creations.

Some of the industries are listed below:
